Curious as to why people would lower their Audi RS cars? Many like the look of a lowered car, but there’s more than aesthetics to lowering an Audi RS. Lowering a car improves its handling too. Because the Audi sits closer to the road, it allows you to take curves at higher speeds.

What is body roll? It happens when you accelerate, brake or take a curve or turn. It means the car, in this case we are talking about the Audi RS cars, puts more weight on or leans to one side, front or back. Your tires have a reduced grip on the road surface which causes this to happen.

Body Roll terms - Forward body roll (from acceleration) = Dive

Backward body roll (from braking) = Squat

If a car is lowered it means, there is less space between the car and ground giving it more stability and less of the body roll in any direction.

Although there are several ways to lower a car, the best way is to replace the springs that are shorter, yet stronger. These would have to be stronger to support the weight of a car if they are not as tall as the factory springs that support a car.

Is there a downside to the shorter springs? Yes, with the shorter springs on your Audi, you will feel every bump in the road.

Pros of Lowering your Audi RS

  • Better looks. As mentioned above, many car enthusiasts love the look of a lowered car.

  • Improved cornering, accelerating, and braking in your Audi RS. With a lowered car, there is less space between your car and the road surface. So you’ll have better traction.

  • Even wear on tires. Think about the surface of the tire – if it is closer to the ground more of it will touch the road. This means even wear on tires.

Cons of Lowering your Audi RS

  • The Audi ride experience can be uncomfortable. Lowering your Audi means that being closer to the road makes for a stiffer ride. Here you will feel every bump and pothole in the road. Consider if the look and better control over body roll is more important than the feel of bumps in the road.

  • Risk of bottoming out / scraping with a lowered car – Before embarking on lowering your Audi RS think about how practical it is and implications of lowering it. You may end up scraping it on driveways or when parking or bottoming out over speed bumps. For many this car can be a daily driver, where this risk can happen.

  • Warranty and resale value of your RS. If you have a warranty on your Audi, check to see if these modifications can void the warranty before you begin any modifications.
